It's hot cross buns time! 🐰

Hello Reader 😊

If, like me, the food you crave at Easter is a good hot cross bun, slathered in melty butter then you need to try making your own from scratch. Easier than you may think, you can make them traditional or give them a little twist. Try these ones and let me know which one you love!

Cranberry White Chocolate Hot Cross Buns

Wit the traditional dried fruit swapped for white chocolate chips and tart dried cranberries, these fluffy warmly spiced buns are perfection!

Kim said "I made these again and did the second prove in the fridge overnight and let them come to room temperature for an hour. They turned out great. Thanks Marie"

Chocolate Hot Cross Buns

Still one of the most popular recipes on the blog, these chocolate hot cross buns are a decadent twist on a classic. With cocoa in the dough and chocolate chips, they're a chocolate lovers hot cross dream!

Melody said "Great recipe! The dough was very sticky but I’m glad I followed the recipe and didn’t add any more flour because the buns turned out lovely and moist."

Brioche Hot Cross Buns

With the classic add-ins of dried fruit and spices with an indulgent twist of buttery brioche, these hot cross buns are indulgent and just perfect for Easter brunch.

Effie said "Just out of the oven. Followed your recipe to the letter and it worked perfectly. (I did add a teaspoon of grated orange rind). Perfect!"

Chocolate Chip Hot Cross Buns

These choc chip hot cross buns are absolutely scrummy. With chocolate chips in every bite, they're gorgeous served warm while the chocolate is gooey with loads of butter.

Alice said "Excellent recipe, thanks for all the extra tips and photos, always helpful when working with yeasty things! I followed the recipe almost exactly except for kneading by hand (I don’t have a stand mixer). It was pretty sticky so I did end up adding maybe 1 tbsp of flour while kneading, just like you noted. And I needed to add a bit more water to the cross piping mixture to make it flow nicely. It turned out really well, very soft and fluffy!"

πŸ’‘Quick tip for all your hot cross buns

Pour half a cup of cream over the raw buns right before they go into the oven, it'll make them extra soft and fluffy and stay that way for longer too!
